Do you think it's easier to write songs when you're in love or when you're heartbroken?

Joe: I think there’s a lot to draw from in both experiences, but I do find myself gravitating towards more sad songs when I listen to music. I think because of that I generally write more sappy heartbroken tunes too. I have a never-ending supply of stupid teenage heartbroken experiences to draw from when writing anyways that are probably more relatable to listen to than happy stories and feelings about my wife.

Harriette:
I certainly find it less cringe to write about being heartbroken… but I’ve also been with the same person for almost eleven years, so I do find myself embellishing and thinking back to heartbreaks from many moons ago in order to capture the right emotions.

What 5 songs would be on the soundtrack of your life together?

New Order - Temptation
Coldplay - Shiver
The Pastels - Check My Heart
Echo & The Bunnymen - I Wanna Be There
Cocteau Twins - Lorelei

In your opinions, has social media ruined or rewarded the music industry?

Joe: I think we’d both agree it has been ruined to some extent. When I first wanted to start a band, I signed up for making music and playing shows, not making daily videos trying to promote them. It’s a whole other job and I realise a lot of the time I’m spending more time and energy on it than making actual music. I think there is a certain level of mystique that has been lost between fans and musicians too with everything being shared so openly.

Harriette: I agree, but I’ll add that I do think it’s incredible the way the internet can connect artists to their fans and can have a wider reach than ever before. Unfortunately this reach is also often more fleeting than ever before.

You perfectly encapsulate the perfect mix of 80's and 90's nostalgia with airy vocals, soft synths and electric guitars. There is no question. It's just a compliment as I read you're not great at receiving them!

Haha, thank you <3

When you write together as husband and wife, are there ever arguments over whether a song is a RINSE song or a Hatchie song? Or do you just know?

Joe: Not really, it’s usually pretty clear from the get go which project it’s more suitable for. There’s obviously a shared sound between the bands but I think to us they feel like very different projects.

You write music and create excellent music videos and photos. Is there anything you're actually bad at?

Joe: Laundry… and dealing with money.

If you weren't a musician, what would you be doing?

Joe: Game design
Harriette:
Something with animals
