Hi.

Welcome.
Stay a while…

Meet Phoebe Go

Meet Phoebe Go

Name: Phoebe Go
Star Sign: Libra
Go-to snack: Fruit
Best gig I’ve been to is: Bon Iver - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
Song that bring me nostalgia: Eliott Smith - Waltz #2 (XO)

It's out! Your debut solo record "Marmalade" is finally in our eardrums. Tell us about the highs and lows of releasing something so personal.

Yeah! I feel so happy that it’s out there. It’s pretty raw stuff, and that’s really freaky when you think about it but it’s also kind of the whole point. It means I’ve done my job in the way I wanted to. I think the process of writing is about understanding something and getting it off my chest. So I think no matter how personal a song is, by the time it’s out, it’s become its own thing. I’ve dealt with the feelings and the crap and now it’s just a song. It lives inside of you and outside of you at the same time.

How do you find navigating a heavily Tik Tok saturated landscape as an artist in 2024?

Haha. I dunno. It’s crazy out there. I just post occasionally and try not to overthink it. I don’t watch Tik Toks so I don’t really know what’s normal or trending or whatever. I just think it’s important to stick to my guns and be myself. I prioritize the songs above everything else. I don’t wanna start feeling like a weird internet worm, plus I’d run out of time to live and work and create.

Your music evokes the feeling of being in a cute montage in a movie, specifically for us the title track "Marmalade". Are you into films, and would you ever want your music to make a soundtrack?

Oh for sure. I love movies. I’ve always been into storytelling. You know. Getting a feeling across. So I guess songwriting and cinema are kind of speaking the same language.

Has your personal style evolved with your music?

I dunno. I don’t think my style has changed that much in my life to be honest. Haha. It always comes back to jeans and a tee.

Having been a musician for over a decade now, do you ever still have self doubt as a creative, or do you feel comfortable in your own voice and skin more than ever?

I feel confident but I still have self doubt. I think I always will, it’s just something I accept. Because it isn’t about perfection, right? It’s about honesty. So I kind of just wear it and it doesn’t get to me. Putting yourself out there can be really crippling for some people. I think for me, my desire to do this job is bigger than my fear of it. (But only just)

Phoebe Go’s debut record ‘Marmalade’ is out now.
